Tangshan-- a Brand-New City After An Earthquake
Tangshan was laid in ruins by the massive
earthquake in 1976, being a devastating natural disaster
of this century. But it was reconstructed into a very
modern city during some 10 years by the stricken People.
Tangshan has 600-year long history of porcelain
production, the famous kinds being bone china, bailan
porcelain, white Jade porcelain and magnolia porcelain.
Not far from the city lie the Eastern Imperial Tombs
of the Qing Dynasty. The buildings in front of the tombs
are very magnificent with red walls, golden roofs and
marble bridges. Altogether 5 emperors, 15 empresses and
l36 concubines were buried here. Several tombs were
excavated and have been open to visitors.
